About LMU

Loyola Marymount University is ranked No. 64 among top national universities by U.S. News and World Report, placing LMU among the top five Jesuit universities in the country and in the top six private universities in California. Founded in 1911, LMU is a Catholic, Jesuit and Marymount university with more than 6,500 undergraduate students and more than 3,000 graduate and law students. LMU offers 61 undergraduate majors and 55 minor programs, along with 49 master’s degree programs, three doctorate programs and 13 credential/authorization programs. LMU’s intercollegiate athletics teams compete in the West Coast Conference with 21 Division I and varsity sports.
LMU has a history of hosting distinguished speakers, including President Bill Clinton, President George H.W. Bush, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino, President of Mexico Vicente Fox, Taoiseach of Ireland Leo Varadkar, Nobel laureates Rigoberta Menchú Tum and Shirin Ebadi, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, among others.

The results are in, and once again, Loyola Marymount University has been recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent universities:

LMU is a National University/High Research Activity (R2) putting LMU in the upper echelon of American universities. This classification reflects LMU’s commitment to high-level research and its growth in doctoral degrees. LMU offers doctorate degrees in educational leadership for social justice and juridical science at LMU’s Loyola Law School. LMU shelters a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and an Alpha Sigma Nu chapter.
